Didion Family Camping Trip Summer 2024

Didion Family Camping Trip Summer 2024

August 11, 2024

It’s important to take time away from work and the hustle and bustle of life. Taking that much needed time off is chance for your to recharge, rejuvenate and reflect. That time off should actually make you more productive and motivated in all areas of your life; for me those areas of life are being a husband, father and wealth advisor to my clients.

My family and I recently went on a camping trip to a place called Cutty’s Resort and Campground. It’s in Fremont County by Hayden Creek. From Colorado Springs you head south on highway 115, get on highway 50 and head west. Cutty’s campground is just off highway 50 about 15 miles before you get to Salida, CO. It was less than 2 hours from our house so it was not a bad drive at all.

What’s cool about this place is that you can choose to pitch a tent, set up your RV, stay in one of the campground’s covered wagons or stay in one of their creekside cabins so there are many different ways for you and your family to camp.

Also, the campground has basketball courts, a swimming pool, mini golf, hiking trails, tether ball, tennis and pickle ball so there is a lot of great stuff to do right in the campground while you’re there.

Our youngest daughter, Michaela, is 11 months old so we decided to stay in one of their creekside cabins instead of pitching a tent. The creekside cabins were great for our family because it had a bedroom, a loft area with a mattress and a bathroom. This made the trip way more comfortable and relaxing with an 11 month old.

When we first got there we hung out by unloaded the truck and hung out by the creek. It was a lot of fun to just sit and listen to the sound of our kids and the creek. The mountains have always been one of my favorite places, it’s just so peaceful and relaxing there.

Soon my kids were walking into the creek, climbing trees and throwing the dirt around at each other. I just felt so blessed and grateful to be having this time with my family.

Within minutes though, my son Vas, lost one of his sandals in the creek. We tried to fetch it out of the creek but the water was too fast and his sandal was gone. And I mean gone!

After we roasted some hot dogs for dinner, we had to make some S’mores. Which brings me to a question…how do you roast your marshmallow for a S’more? I basically burn it ’til it’s charred on the outside. My family did NOT like the marshmallow that way! But it’s the only way I know how to make them and I thought they were great.

My kids brought their bikes and for the rest of the first day and most of the second day they rode their bikes all over the campground exploring as much as they could. And we were lucky because our cabin was close to the heart of the campground which meant we were close to the basketball court, volleyball court, tennis court, swimming pool and mini golf.

One of the best parts about this trip was being disconnected from the rest of the world.

No internet.

No phone.

No tv.

It honestly was great.

I think we are too connected sometimes nowadays and being able to disconnect was refreshing. It was a great time to read, reflect on life and the goals I have for me and my family and to think about how I want to be a better dad, husband and financial advisor.

When I disconnect like that I feel like I have time to sit and really think about things with zero distractions. And being in a place like the mountains I start to think clearly and I get my best revelations and ideas that I just can’t wait to implement when I get back home.

Waking up on day 3 was bitter sweet. It was checkout time at 11am so that meant that we were leaving our awesome little campground. Our kids were bummed because they had so much fun and honestly, my wife and I were disappointed because it was such a rewarding experience that we didn’t want it to end for our family.

But the good news is we started a new family tradition.

We all agreed that this is something we want to do together as a family every summer.

We are all already talking about all the memories we made and can’t wait to be back next summer.

We will definitely be back to beautiful Cutty’s Campground and Resort.

Cheers.
